Plate Techtonics is the theory regarding the structure of the Earth and the processes that occur which explian the configuration of the continents. It is these processes the cause such geological events as Earthquakes and Volcanic activity as a result of the continents moving around the planet through convection currents in the mantle.

There are three types of plate margins, or boundaries between plates, depending on the two types of crusts that are interacting: oceanic with oceanic, continental with continental, or continental with oceanic.
