[edit] Overview
Film theory is a systematic approach to thinking about the nature of film. These systems of thought have changed over time. From the 1920s to 1940s, historical and Marxist approaches have been used; this evolved into the formalist and structuralist approach of the 1970s and eventually into the post-structuralist approach of today.
