Essence

Emergency Medicine is, in essence, the treatment of acute, life-threatening illnesses - or injuries that require immediate medical attention. Emergency Medicine is usually not involved in long-term care, but in the establishment of that care.
Emergency Medicine is usually based in the Emergency Department (ED, ER, A&E) of a hospital, which is staffed by Physicians, Nurses, PCAs and other staff to provide the full scope of practicable medicine, all in one, multi-disciplinary centre.
