Topic:Early childhood education
From Wikiversity
Early childhood education (ECE) refers to enabling learning in children in the age group 2 to 8. It encompasses the knowledge and skills required to facilitate learning. It is the foundation on which all other learning rests.
It is probably the most crucial area of education but the importance attached to University education has, however, not been given to ECE.
The scientific methods of modern day ECE owe much of their beginnings to Mme. Maria Montessori (Montessori). Montessori was the pioneer in her orientation towards ECE, though by no means the first to take up ECE as a priority area.
