Communication Studies is a wide field that embraces many others, such as Media Studies, Linguistics, Semiotics and Cultural Anthropology. Basically, Communication Studies focus on the transmission of a message. The basic communication model can be seen in the picture, though the nature of the elements can change and the model tends to become more complex depending on the approach.

Communication Studies also encompasses the professional fields of Journalism, Publicity, Film/Video Making, Multimedia Developing, Telecommunication and Media Management. All of these fields revolve around the creation and distribution of meaningful information, focusing on a specific purpose and effect over society.
