This is a lesson part of the module The Web Economy out of the Open Source ERP/Executive Diploma course conducted by a private university.

  • There were business pressures onto projects like Linux such as to buy back Linux Inc and control its trademark.
  • Linux has to consider user friendliness for non geek users.
  • Community members have to survive and often argue of their monetary needs not be neglected so that they continue contributing to open source.

  • Can business and hobby mix together in open source?
  • How can contributors make money in a certain manner without compromising the culture and principles of community open source.
