- {{Silent}} does nothing... but surround a block of text
(Which may contain multiple table elements, or multiple in-line comments using <!-- ... --->)and "swallows them" so they have no effect.
- All text after the initial pipe character (i.e. the argument: {{{1}}} ) are treated as pass parameters into the template, and disarmed.
- This enables one to just vanish bits and pieces of template code while troubleshooting, looking for nesting errors, trying a different approach (whilst keeping a "unchanged copy" to work from) and so forth.
- Successive arguments can be given after a pipe to provide notes to other editors, as anything after any pipe has no effect. In general, the text
|End Silent}}at the end of the template call is recommended to clarify the scope of the template.
- The template also works around and past other HTML tags such as <includeonly ... /includeonly> and so forth.
It is equivalent in effect to:
<!--- Some text... but which can have other comments, HTML, etc. --->
but allows the use of inline comments without side effects should sections underconstruction need to be by-passed by use of inline comments broader in scope.
