[edit] Development of these pages

Since this is an exploratory phase of Wikiversity, I am deliberately trying different things on this page, and on the Learn Violin page. I hope this is a good idea... --HappyCamper 06:50, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello - my main intrest is piano so I will mostly be concentrating on this page. Basically, I will try and set up a rough outline of the course, then we (and anyone else who is intrested) can start making the actual lessons. --Pianist

[edit] Question

Sorry for this naive question. I am very new to this site (I literally only found it yesterday). I am very familiar with Wikipedia, and I've noticed that it is different, certainly. I am confused about something, and I wonder if someone might be able to enlighten me.

My confusion is basically, I guess, in regards to page titles (or perhaps 'course' titles?). For example, on a page called "Piano" what kind of information would go on here? Anything regarding piano instruction, piano information, etc? I can imagine that this would get to be a pretty long page (or is there something I am not understanding?). I guess, where is the line drawn on what information goes on the page? For example, let's say I want to talk about minor scales on the piano, or counterpoint theory, or jazz scales (as pertaining specifically to this instrument), or how to tune a piano, or the different types of pianos (grand, upright, etc.)... That couldn't possibly all fit on this page. But if the stuff that is currently on this page belongs on this page, then wouldn't all of the information I mentioned (or at least some of it) belong on this page as well? (I hope this doesn't sound like I'm criticizing or anything--I am honestly confused.)

I noticed that 'Pianist' (above) mentioned something about this being a 'course.' Is this the key that I am missing? This is a course on 'Piano'? Shouldn't it be more specific, like 'Playing the Piano' (or something similar)? I ask because 'Tuning a Piano' or 'Building a Piano' would be a totally different course...right?? Or is that all eventually going to be part of the 'Piano' course as well? I again apologize for the 'stupid' questions. (Perhaps with Wikipedia I've become accustomed to taking these types of details too seriously.) I appreciate any response(s). I would love to eventually contribute once I gain a better understanding of how this site operates. Thanks in advance. B1810 11:22, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Edit/update: OK, I've come to notice that this is under the 'Performance' category. So, my question remains, except please disregard the stuff about Piano Tuning and anything else that doesn't have to do with performance. Also, I see that there are special sections for theory, but I am still confused about what exactly would (and would not) belong on a page with such a broad topic like Piano (Performance). (And, is a course spread across multiple pages?) B1810 11:49, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Hmm...the simple answer is that you're welcome to edit the pages as you see fit! Topics can span over multiple pages, or kept on one page, or there could be a collection of subpages, etc... --HappyCamper 19:22, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
