I can't find any of the suggested readings on e-reserve from Learning for the first assessment Can you find them on moodle, i'm worried its just my log in.

I found a few articles on the learning e-reserve site they are different to the ones i saw in the unit outline though. I can't see any on the actual moodle page Blerg26 (discusscontribs) 02:06, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, I know...mm... Also, your page is coming together nicely!

Good stuff - logical plan, nice flow. Courtney.reis (discusscontribs) 07:48, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey A.S. So, I found this website that gives Creative Commons Attribution License 2.5 for ALL of its journals! so, it means we can potentially use the pics from the journals too. I've got one up already as a trial...I'm happy to meet up with you in the week to show you how to add the images to wiki commons etc.. I found this one particularly interesting , I also posed it on your book chapter. Not sure if its in the theme of things! U3049223 (discusscontribs) 10:15, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Your page is coming along nicely! I was just reading through your information so far and was wondering if you have looked into the mastery oriented vs. helpless oriented motivation theory? This theory seems to suggest that helpless oriented people shy away from challenges. fear failure and blame any mistake as part of the self. They say things like 'I failed because I'm no good at school work.' They avoid taking on challenges as a result. I was thinking that maybe these type of people would be more likely to self-handicap. Just something to consider as it would be interesting to look into and include. Victoriagc (discusscontribs) 13:30, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Self-Handicapping and Alcohol[edit source]

I just found this article on self-handicapping and alcohol. It could be something to have a read of and get some information from. http://ethicstalk.cmich.edu/selfhandicap.pdf I hope it helps Victoriagc (discusscontribs) 14:19, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Overall[edit source]

Overall, this is a good, solid chapter.

Theory[edit source]

The chapter covers a good amount of relevant theories and applies them to everyday situations well. I particularly liked the incorporation of the Entity and Incremental theories of intelligence as applied to self handicapping. To improve further, a better explanation of these theories could be provided to give some context to the reader. The theories could also have used some critique for a more balanced chapter.

Research[edit source]

Some interesting research is covered, with decent breadth, I liked the inclusion of gender. There was also some good examples of research and theory integration. The research component could be improved by providing critical analysis of the research.

Written expression[edit source]

There are some written expression issues – particularly the sentence structure. I recommend more thorough editing. The chapter has a good balance of “self help” and academic language.

The headings are in the correct style and the flow of the paragraphs works well. The chapter has some nice learning features (the quiz is great and the pictures add some “pop” to the page). There is a tendency towards a text heavy look which could be broken up a little more with pictures, and some in text links would be useful.Courtney.reis (discusscontribs)

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via login to the unit's Moodle site. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener. If you wish to dispute the marks, see the suggested marking dispute process.

Overall[edit source]

Overall, a good attempt. See comments below for feedback

Structure and content[edit source]

The presentation had a logical flow and covered the key points of the chapter. Integration of theory and research was done well. For future improvement, try including some of the points from the chapter about overcoming self handicapping

Communication[edit source]

The speed of the chapter was very rapid, I would recommend a slower pace. The visual aspects of the presentation were easy to follow and I liked the case example. To make the presentation more engaging perhaps include some more images

Production quality[edit source]

The quality of the production was good and the voiceover was clear though very fast. The presentation made effective use of basic tools, good work. For future improvement, perhaps rerecord with a slower pace and a script to avoid “trip ups”. Great effort! Courtney.reis (discusscontribs)
