Two types of textbooks are required for this unit:

  1. An introductory SPSS text (to assist you with the tutorial and lab report work).
  2. An applied statistics text which describes at least: normal distribution, correlation, linear regression, multiple linear regression, t-tests, and ANOVAs (to assist you with the lectures and quizzes/exams).

The recommended "essential" texts for this unit are:

The price of the two books by Allen and Howell packaged together is ~$160 from the University of Canberra co-op bookshop.

[edit] Software

You will also be required to use the statistical software, SPSS (a stand-alone package) and Excel (part of Microsoft Office). This software can be accessed via University campus computers at no direct cost to you. However you may also wish to purchase licenses to use this software on your personal computers.

You may optionally wish to purchase access to SPSS via either of:
