The School of Language and Literature is part of the Humanities. The School of Foreign Language Learning is part of the Practical Arts and Sciences. The School of Linguistics is part of the Social Sciences. These three schools should cooperate and avoid duplication of effort. --JWSchmidt 16:22, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have some formal training in Linguistics, though it's not my primary area of study. I may be able to help if called upon. In particular, my knowledge lies in Historical Linguistics (and particularly that relating to English and French) and Artificial Languages. Jade Knight 20:29, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

English Language[edit source]

I've created an English Language Division, to deal with the Linguistics that relates specifically to the English language. Anything dealing with Old or Middle English, English morphology, phonetics, or syntax, etc., might belong there. The Jade Knight 00:00, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So what of other language departments – Topic:German Language, Topic:Spanish Language, Topic:French Language, Topic:Chinese Language etc? Many resources at Wikibooks could be imported to build such divisions.
I've started putting in place some local (en.wikiversity.org) pages to encourage and facilitate Foreign Language Learning. I'd like to collaborate on develping a generalized Multilingualism (like w:Multilingualism) learning resource and a Wikiversity-specific Wikiversity:Multilingualism (like m:Multilingualism) learning resource.
All of this is coordinated via Topic:Multilingual Studies, its Topic:Translation Department and a social component – the Wikiversity:Interlingual Beta Club. I would like to extend these to other versions and betas. Thoughts? Suggestions? Encouragement? Scathing critisims? CQ 22:34, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
