Things to consider before using Logview[edit | edit source]

Do you have the VPS driver installed?

Did you restart the computer once the VPS driver was successfully installed?

Did you installed Logview?

If you did not do one of the checklists, please refer to the Logview Installation tutorial.

Checklist[edit | edit source]

Make sure the computer has recognized the usb cord connected to the dual power unit. Steps to check so is below:

1. Click start window

2. Go to devices and printers

3. Scroll down to unspecified. If USB to UART Bridge shows up under unspecified, the computer has recognized the dual power unit.

Connection Procedures[edit | edit source]

1. Find the suitable adapter to connect the battery to the dual power unit.

2. Connect the battery to the adapter.

3. Connect the adapter wire to the dual power unit while matching the color wires to the correct ports.

4. Connect the adapter of the battery to the white board according to the amount of teeth the adapter has.

Charging Procedures[edit | edit source]

1. Open up Logview and turn on the dual power unit once you have connected the battery to the dual power unit.

2. When the dual power unit is turned on, it will pop up Program Settings. Choose the right battery type being used. In our project, Lithium-Polymer battery is being tested so LiPo Batt is chosen. To choose a type of battery, press the start button.

3. Choose what you want to do with the battery whether to charge it, discharge it, quick charge it, etc. Click the incl-decli button to change the choice. It is strongly suggested to discharge the battery before charging it. In our case, we will discharge the battery.

4. Before discharging the batteries, make sure the settings of the LiPo Discharge is at 1.0A and at 9.0V. You can change the settings by pressing start then press incl to increase and decl to decrease. Press start again to change other units.

5. Click on the record button on Logview once the LiPo discharge is at suggested setting. After you do so, hold the start button until a beep occurs. Once the dual power unit beeps, the tool will begin discharging the battery.

6. Logview should start recording the data from the dual power unit on the Voltage and Aperture the battery is at and how much mAh the battery is discharging. You can see it clearly under Digital view.

7. When the Voltage reaches to 11.1-11.2 Volts, it is deemed safe and sufficient enough to start charging the batteries. To stop the discharging, press the stop button. Stop the recording on Logview and save the file then make a new file.

8. Once you stopped the discharging, press incl until you reach LiPo charge. Make sure you have the settings at 2.1A and 11.1V.

9. When the settings are correct, hold start. The dual power unit will beep but will not start the charge until the start button is pressed again. Before you press the start button again, begin recording through Logview. The dual power unit should be able to charge the battery and Logview should be recording the charging without difficulty. If Logview isn't recording, stop the charging and click stop recording and restart the charging process. It isn't necessary to discharge the battery as the charging was for a short time. If the dual power unit starts beeping, that means the battery is full. Be cautious as Lithium Polymer can explode if it is overcharged. Stop the charging immediately if the battery begins to puff up and a smoky odor occurs.
