Partial differential equations, or PDEs, are equations involving partial derivatives. Partial differential equations provide the language for modelling all sorts of natural phenomena and are ubiquitous in physics. Understanding the behaviours of their solutions, often even without explicitly writing the solution down, is a main goal of the subject.
