The history of Cuba is summarized in less than 60 pages beautifully by Gabriel Cabrera Infante "Cain" in his book "Vista De Un Amanecer en El TrĂ³pico". It is a concise collection of synoptic vignetes describing scenes of the key historical events of Cuba which could give the unitiated a feel for the ironic destiny which history has always dealt to the inhabitants of this island-paradise.
If you are really interested in the history of Cuba you would have to know spanish and read Levi Marrero's 8 volume History of Cuba.
