This page is a guide to using project boxes to tag and categorise your resources by subject. The Wikiversity project boxes system allows you to insert an easy and attractive project box into your resource which does a lot of handy things behind the scenes, such as classifying your resource and making it accessible in the navigation system. Just follow the easy instructions below. [edit] Subject box subclassification[edit] Pre-tertiary and post-secondaryThis page makes a fundamental distinction between subjects offered at pre-tertiary (primary, secondary) level and post-secondary (tertiary, research) level. There are a number of reasons for this. The number of subjects taught at schools is a relatively small and stable cannon, where each subject covers a broad range. University subjects profilerate wildly and become very specialised. The vast majority of educators and learners are from primary and secondary education, and one does not want to drown them out of the game by overwhelming them with the proliferation and specialisation of university-level subject definitions. [edit] Colour schemesAn attempt has been made to distinguish the main sub-classes of subject-related project box by colour.
BomChica-wa-wa [edit] Project boxes for tagging resources by school subjectIt is sufficient to write the shortcut into your wiki-markup. Just copy and paste (or type) the code given into your page including the double curly brackets. The project box will align itself on the right-hand side of your page. The project box will also automatically categorise the resource into a special category which puts your resource into the category tree of the equivalent portal. The project box also adds a link to the relevant portal. All of this is automatic - you just type in the code shown, and the rest is done for you. Minor school subjects may also be found below under project boxes for "non-formal education". [edit] Project boxes for tagging resources by university subjectIn general, it is suggested that every portal and every school page (i.e. every such page created in the Portal: and School: namespaces) devoted to university-level studies should create its own project box and list it here.

[edit] Project boxes for tagging resources by non-formal education topicsNon-formal education involves both conventional subjects offered in the formal education system, and a huge and unlimited range of other subjects. It is suggested that project boxes should be created for these as and when needed. Project boxes in this section might also include subjects which could be minor school subjects.

Q: My resource is cross-disciplinary.
Q: Where should I put this on my page?
Q: Can I combine these with other project boxes, such as educational-level project boxes and completion-status project boxes?
Q: I find these subject classifications too broad. Can I create a project box with a finer subject classification?
