Health informatics
Health informatics - University of Otago
Health Informatics is concerned with the collection, storage, manipulation and transmission of medical and health data in order to produce information and knowledge which leads to improved health care for all sectors of society. Health Informatics necessarily involves and understanding of how computer systems work and what they are capable of. It also involves an appreciation of how individuals and organizations “know” things. Health care is provided not just by individuals, but also by organizations, so an understanding of the impact of information systems is vital for Health Informatics – hence the social aspects.
