[edit] What the Mentoring Project Is
The French language Mentoring project is designed to connect teachers and learners to help individuals to practice and learn French.
Mentors may choose to help their students in a variety of ways. Here are a few possibilities:
- By answering questions about the language
- By simply engaging in discussion in French with eachother (using audio, or simply in text form)
- By recommending reading materials or coursework
- By giving corrections
- By giving specific instruction or teaching directly.
Mentors need only use what methods they prefer or they think are better for those they are mentoring.

Below you'll find the list of those currently participating in the Mentoring program. If you want to sign up to be a Mentor or to be mentored, just add your name and time zone to the appropriate list. Feel free to add comments about your ability or specific requests for students or mentors.
[edit] Becoming/Finding a Mentor
Once your name is on the list, Michel-Forêt will do his best to match you up with someone of an appropriate level to either teach or learn from for you. He will do his best to match you with someone with a time zone close to yours, though this may not always be possible.
[edit] Communicating
It is recommended that Mentors and Learners find mutually-agreeable methods for communicating. Voice or video chat are ideal, as they provide the opportunity to work on oral and listening skills, but much can be learned in instant-messaging or chatroom settings, as well as over e-mail. Participants are, of course, welcome to simply use their own talk pages for communications, or develop subpages to communicate on.
