Part I - Look at the short scene

Write a film score What happened in the night? Editing this scene Scene #2 is the short scene. Look at the DVD-Video section (by playing the disk in a DVD-Video player or on your computer). It shows you a very brief look at how the scene was edited. Segment 1 and Segment 2 First you see the basic edit of the footage. Then you see the basic edit with a film score. It is rather boring. Segment 3 Then you see the scene being edited so music can be added between the dialog. Listening to this can be very confusing. You hear the dialog twice or three times. Once on the screen and then more times off the screen. That is the secret. The footage is being reused... sort of. Segment 4 Then you hear the exact same edit with the extra words removed and a film score added. In the rough edit (Segment 3), this was a mess. But simply by erasing the extra words and adding music, it all seems very natural. Absolutely amazing

In this lesson, you saw that the greatest opportunity for film scoring is when the scene is edited specially for adding a film score. But you must also look at the facts. Most film editors will neither want to create a special edit of the scene for you to create a long film score. Nor will most film editors even care about the film socre.
