A bass guitar is a musical stringed instrument. Basses can be fretted or fretless. Basses are used in many musical styles, and is the bass instrument of the guitar family. Most basses have four strings. Some have more strings, most notabily five, but also six, seven and more. Basses are used in most genres of popular music.

There are many types of bass guitars. Most basses are electric ones that can be connected to a bass amplifier. There are also acoustic basses.
